Portrait Commissions: As every commission is a special arrangement, there are many possibilities to be discussed on an individual basis at the outset. However, the following general guidelines may be helpful.
Sittings: If possible, sittings take place in the sitter's own home or familiar surroundings.
Number of Sittings: I am happy to paint portraits either from life or from a combination of drawings and photographs. If a portrait cannot practicably be painted from life (because of size, time, or other factors) I will normally require about five sittings (of about 2 hours each) for drawings and photographs. If the portrait is to be painted from life it is harder to predict, but again at least five. If the portrait is to be in natural light, the sittings need to be all at the same time of day.
